Importance of Documentation
When I first began shadowing occupational therapist, I remember meeting a girl who had recently graduated. She was very nice and constantly told me how much she loved her job. Towards the end of the day, I heard her in her office on the phone saying "the only bad part about this job is all the documentation". I have always wondered about what makes it so bad. Regardless of how tedious and annoying it may be, documentation is a very important aspect for being an OT. This is crucial for ethical and legal reasons. Documentation is always important for insurance companies. If a practitioner is not properly documenting, their lack of proof could be the defining line of an insurance company continuing or discontinuing payments. It is also important to be able to efficiently and accurately treat the clients, by having the details of their previous sessions. ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that your FWE allowed you to get so much practice! My FWE also allowed me to take the lead with treatment sessions, and sometimes I would also freeze for a minute and make sure I was comfortable enough to go through with it! But if you never practice with a real patient then you'll never really learn! Overall, it sounds like you had a great experience where you were able to learn a lot!
I never even thought about looking over evaluation information, but i'll definitely be adding that to my list! Before our acute care evaluation sim lab, I was freaking out because I had never done anything like that before. So when I first saw an IP Rehab evaluation (and was able to compare and contrast the two), I realized that it will all just come with practice! Even though I'm not in acute care or IP Rehab for my Level 2 Fieldwork, it never hurts to look over the evaluation portion! Great video, Macy, and thanks for sharing!

Macy, thank you so much for sharing your experience! I think it's incredible you were able to see the same clients throughout your stay and get some hands-on experience with them. I'm glad you were able to work with them throughout their healing process and even get to see what environments you are discharging them into. I need help with understanding diagnoses as well and look forward to learning more about them as well! Great post!

I would be overwhelmed to have to choose activities for the clients, but i'm sure it got easier throughout the two weeks with the practice! Can't wait to hear more! Have a good break!
